Graduated from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Ore. He grew up, in order, in California, Arkansas, Kentucky and Oregon. He regularly covers the Oscars and the Emmys, goes to Comic-Con and Coachella, reviews pop music, and conducts interviews with authors and actors, musicians and directors, a little of this and a whole lot of that. If you do it in a subtle enough way, it'll mostly look like you're taking an interest in something he's passionate about, which he'll almost certainly appreciate.Peter Larsen has been the Pop Culture Reporter for the Orange County Register since 2004, finally achieving the neat trick of getting paid to report and write about the stuff he's obsessed about pretty much all his life. In your case though I'd say you probably don't have much to worry about - this is a guy who has a Facebook account, hangs out in social gathering places, and is open to meeting and befriending (or dating) people who aren't familiar with metal music or "culture." You could just ask him about it - it's not like you were doing any creepy snooping, since he told you about his projects and advertises them on Facebook. Almost all the bands making NSBM (National Socialist black metal) are actually neo-Nazis or skinheads in everyday life. For example, Mikko Aspa, sole member of Clandestine Blaze and singer for Deathspell Omega, was at one point and may still be a pornographer working mostly with pretty hardcore BDSM and fetish material. With a lot of bands, especially the more popular ones, it's all for show, but the further out on the fringe you go the more serious the people become. TL DR: Thanks for the help, was worried about nothing! In fact, I uh, stayed over and he was a little rougher than I'm used to but I'm not complaining :-) Sad news is that he also told me his main band is going to tour in 2014 so that he won't be around for a while but he also said that he likes me. I guess the more I get to know him the sillier I feel about the fact that I was worried. When he saw I got a little uncomfortable he reassured me he's into the scene and the music but that he's a-religious and reassured me he was pretty sane. I asked him if he could explain some things about the metal scene and he was very passionate about it and told me some creepy stories about BM bands. The only weird things in his home were stage props. He made diner for me at his apartment and it was very reassuring to see his place. Thanks so much for any help/insightfull comments! TL DR Is gore and stuff in Black Metal just for show? (or does the guy I'm dating expect me to lick his blood when we take it to the bedroom?) my hope is that because of the corpse paint and such, artists alter-ego's are different from their personalities and the freaky stuff on his page shouldn't freak me out, right? Right? There's a lot of sexualisation of death and gore and that makes me very uncomfortable. But his artist page is also FULL of pictures of naked ladies puking blood, getting gangbanged by demons and other weird crap. Kind of creepy, but nothing I can't handle. Luckily, I have a friend who listenes to BM so I was familliar with all the leather and spikes and corpsepaint. He told me the reason he was very busy was because he's a vocalist in two bands! I found his personal artist page on facebook. I met a really nice guy a few weeks ago in a pub and he asked me on a proper date, which was a lot of fun and he's very sweet and I agreed on a second date. So, first of all: I don't know anything about the (black) metal scene. Not sure if I'm allowed to ask such questions here but this sub said "Intelligent, friendly discussions and relevant personal stories are welcome", so I decided to give it a try.
